Ada is a city in and the county seat of Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. It is the central part of the Ada Metro Area. The city is variously designated as an Oklahoma Main Street City, an Oklahoma Certified City, a Tree City USA member, and a National Weather Service StormReady Community. It was named after the daughter of one of the early settlers, and was incorporated in the year 1901. It has a total area of 15.8 square miles. 0.1 square mile of the area is water, and the rest is land. A number of structures here are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Retail trade, educational services, and health care and social assistance are the major economic activities here. Notable places in the city are the Lakewood Golf Course, Arlington Center, Fords, North Hills Centre and Kerr Research Center. It has an independent public school system, the Ada Independent School District. The city has a total of six primary and secondary schools. Higher education if offered by the East Central University, known for its cartography program. Ada Municipal Airport is the main local airport. Chickasaw Nation Medical Center on Stonecipher Blvd is the local hospital. The cost of living here is 17.50% lower than the country average.
