Alexander City is a city in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Locals call it as "Alex City". The city has a total area of 39.0 square miles. 38.8 square miles of the city area is land and 0.2 square miles (0.44%) is water. The city is best known for Lake Martin, which has 750 miles of wooded shoreline and 44,000 acres of clear water. This makes it a popular spot for activities such as boating, swimming, fishing, golfing, and camping, for both residents and non-residents. The city was incorporated in 1872. Its name was changed from Youngstown to its current name to honour the railroad's President Edward Porter Alexander, hero of the Battle of Gettysburg.

One of the largest employers in the city is Russell Corporation, maker of Russell Athletic, Cross Creek, Jerzees, and Country Cottons apparel. It has its headquarters here. The company was sold to Berkshire Hathaway in 2006, for an estimated $600 million. Now, its workers and CEO report to Fruit of the Loom, another Berkshire Hathaway company.
