Alief is a community in Harris County, Texas. It is part of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metro Area, and is mostly within the Houston city limits. Some parts of the community is in unincorporated Harris County as well. It has a total area of 36.6 square miles. The community was established in the late nineteenth century, and given the name Alief in 1917. The community remained primarily agricultural till the 1970s. Houston began annexing the community in 1977, which continued into the next decade.
