Amityville is a village in Suffolk County, New York. It is part of the town of Babylon. It falls within the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island Metro Area, and has a total area of 2.5 square miles. 2.1 square miles of the area is land, and the rest is water. It was settled in mid seventeenth century, and was incorporated in 1894.
Historically, this place was known for its production of salt hay. Local points of attraction include The Triangle, Lauder Museum, Mike James Courts and the beach. Tourism is a popular activity during the summers. The town is best known as the setting of the novel The Amityville Horror, an association disliked by the town residents who have worked to discourage visitors curious about the incident and the house that inspired the novel.
