In Baltimore, otolaryngology is a specialized branch of medicine that studies and treats medical problems of the ear, nose and throat, commonly called ENT. It is also concerned with the study of the peripheral structures, like the head and neck, including the sinuses; larynx ,that includes the voice box; oral cavity and upper pharynx of the mouth and throat. Sub-specialty areas include pediatric otolaryngology; otology/neurotology; reconstructive surgery of head and neck; laryngology, concerning the throat; and rhinology, concerning the nose.
