Bayou La Batre is a town in Mobile County, Alabama. It is part of the Mobile metropolitan statistical area. The city has a total area of 4.2 square miles. 4.0 square miles of the area is land, and 0.2 square miles of it (3.59%) is water. The permanent settlement here was established in 1786, and it was incorporated in 1955, and its official name is City of Bayou La Batre. Bayou La Batre is essentially a fishing village, which also has the capability to process seafood. It is claimed to be the "Seafood Capital of Alabama".
