What Is: Hydraulic Repair & Machining?
Hydraulic repair and machining deals with the maintenance and repair of hydraulic equipment and tools including, but not limited to, garage lifts, car brakes, airplane systems, cranes and other heavy equipment, and farm equipment. A hydraulic system consists of a reservoir, pump, valves and actuators. Pressurized hydraulic fluid is transmitted throughout the machine, allowing a very large amount of power to be transferred through small tubes and hoses. Machining is a broad term to describe the process of shaping a piece of metal with a cutting action using machine tools such as lathes, power saws and presses. Hydraulic system components are often repaired or replaced with machining tools and processes. Other hydraulic repair services include cylinder repair, resealing and resizing; hose repair; motor and pump rebuilding; re-rodding and re-tubing; hydraulic fluid testing and power honing. The tradespeople who perform maintenance on and repair hydraulic tools and machinery are known as hydraulic technicians or, alternately, fluid power technicians.
