Bijou is currently incorporated village located in the U.S. state of California. It lies in South Lake Tahoe part of El Dorado County. It coordinates at 38°56′48″N 119°58′07″W. The elevation is 6,243 feet above sea level. In 1864, the village was founded and named after Almon M. Taylor. The name was replaced to Bijou during the arrival of their post office in 1888. The operation was halted in 1967.
