Cleft palates and burns are also treated by reconstructive surgery. In the latter case, skin grafting is usually carried out. If local tissue for the area to be operated on is not available, the surgeons carry out microsurgery skin, muscle, bone, fat, or some of these in combination for fashioning a reconstruction.
