Canyon City has a total area of about 3.7 sq. kms. and is located at an elevated height of about 3195 ft. above the ground level. The city is not only located in the County of Grant but is also its County seat. Gold was once found here and it led to growth of the human settlement. Today gold mining is absolete here.
