Historically known as ‘The End of the Santa Fe Trail’, El Monte is a city in the Los Angeles County of California in the United States of America. It is ranked 228th among the largest cities in the state of California, and is a commercial and industrial hub.
El Monte covers a total area of 9.6 square miles at an elevation of 299 ft above the sea level, and supports a population of 113, 475 according to the 2010 Census.
The city encourages a strong entertainment industry – from being credited as the birth place of the variety of TV shows, the city saw the rise of rock and roll shows, as well as varied other entertainment shows organized by a retired circus couple that led to the place being known as the Disneyland of the 1920s and 1930s.
The city has its own police department and gets support from the neighboring Los Angeles County Fire Department for fire service and emergency medical attention.
Willie Shoemaker, the horse racing jockey is one of the notable residents of the city.
