Helpful Definition for: Wedding Bands
Wedding bands, not to be confused with wedding rings, are musical groups that provide live musical entertainment at wedding receptions. Generally more costly that wedding DJs because they involve more personnel, wedding bands provide the musical atmosphere that sets the tone for a reception's festivities. Most wedding bands will include a vocalist. Different bands may specialize in various types of music, so it is always necessary to audition a band before hiring them. Auditions can be done either in person or online via the various bands' posted videos and recordings. The size of the wedding band you hire will depend not only on your tastes and budget, but also upon the size of the reception room and any restrictions imposed by your venue. Prices for wedding bands vary widely, and are contingent upon factors including the number of musicians, the length of time they are contracted to perform, the day of the week (weekends are generally higher), and the time of year of the event.
