Brief Information About Fort Worth

Fort Worth is situated in the north-central part of Texas on the bank of River Trinity.

Maj. Ripley Arnold in 1849 founded the city as a military outpost on the Trinity River to protect settlers moving westward from frequent Indian attacks. It was named after Gen. William J. Worth, the commander of the Texas army. Its growth was activated in the 1870s due its proximity to the Chisholm cattle trail. Fort Worth prospered as a meat-packing and shipping center after the arrival of the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1876. It also experienced a new boom when oil was discovered nearby in 1917. The military installations in the area during both world wars also flourished the economy.

Fort Worth has been a center of manufacturing. Therefore it is not dependent on the oil or financial sectors. The city's industries  has a diverse range from clothing and food products to jet fighters, helicopters, computers, pharmaceuticals, and plastics. Fort Worth is a national leader in aviation products, electronic equipment, and refrigeration equipment. Fort Worth is the home to a multitude of major corporate headquarters, offices, and distribution centers.
