Geddes is a village western suburb of Syracuse in Onondaga County, New York, United States. The village is nestled upon the west bank of Onondaga Lake with level surface in the north and rolling hills in the south. In 1848, Geddes was formed from the Town of Salina and derived its name from a prominent early settler at the head of Onondaga Lake named James Geddes, who first visited Onondaga in around 1792. He came back and formed a company in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for the purpose of developing a salt industry. There was also a brewery and distillery, within the town boundaries.
