Brief Information About Alstead

Alstead is a town in Cheshire County, New Hampshire. Its population at the 2010 census was 1,397. The town is named after Johann Heinrich Alsted, who compiled an early encyclopedia that was popular at Harvard College. The Feuer State Forest is located here.
Alstead had the state's first paper mill, in 1793. Primarily an agricultural community from the time of its establishment, a number of small mills also operated here, using turbine generated power from the many streams here. Lake Warren is in the east, and Cold River drains the town. Severe flooding occurred here in 2005, leading to loss of life and property.
Professional services, and commercial activites incluing sales, production, transportation and material moving are significant here. The Alstead Historical Society Museum is a notable point of attraction in the town.
