Baton Rouge is the capital of the state of Louisiana. The city is located in East Baton Rouge Parish.It is the second-largest city in the state.The city is also known as "Capital Area", is located in the southeast portion of the state along the Mississippi River. The city is home to one Fortune 500 company and one Fortune 1000 company, including Shaw Group.Southeastern Louisiana University and Our Lady of the Lake College both have nursing schools in the medical district off Essen Lane. Lamar Advertising Company has its headquarters in Baton Rouge. There has been significant development in post production facilities and movie studios in the region because of generous state tax credits.
