With a total area of a little over 7 sq. miles, Baxley is a city located within the area of Apling County. Baxley is also the County seat of Appling. The nuclear power plant of E.I. Hatch is located just north of the city. It is beside the banks of Altamaha river and the U.S. Route No.1. This power plant is the largest employer of the area. A company named Rayonier runs a saw mill here. There are a number of schools in the school district of Appling. Local residents earn a handsome income and enjoy a comfortable living. Byron Buxton, Janisse Ray are some of the few famous residents of the area.
