With a total area of about 3.3 sq. miles, Baxter Springs is a city of Cherokee County. The downtown main street of Baxter Springs is a part of the historic U.S. Route No. 66. Baxter Springs is located on the western bank of the Spring river. It is just at the edge of Ozarks. The town center is a little over a mile from the Kansas - Oklahoma state border.
