Belfast is a city in and the county seat of Waldo County, Maine. It is located at the mouth of the Passagassawakeag River on Penobscot Bay, and its population at the 2010 census was 6,668.
The city has a number of historic districts, which have old style architecture. Tourism is a popular activity here. In the early 1990s, credit-card giant MBNA established a large facility in Belfast. MBNA is now a part of the Bank of America. The facility helped generate employment for the area and encouraged immigration.
A number of movies have also been filmed here.
