With a total area of about 6.5 sq. kms., Benson is located at a height of about 1050 ft above the sea level. Benson is located along the Chippewa river and is the County seat of Swift. There are three major roadways bisecting the county and they are also the principal source of transportation and communication.
The city houses two alternative energy plants - a biomass and an ethanol plant. These plants are also the principal source of employment in the area and help in the growth of other local industries in the region as well as in and around the city.
