Carbon Hill is a city in Walker County, Alabama. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover Metro Area. The city has a total area of 5.6 square miles, and 0.90% of the area is water. The city initially started as a mining town.
The city is noted for its large number of churches, of which the Carbon Hill Church of God of Prophecy, and the First Baptist churches gained national attention due to functioning as shelters during the tornadoes that swept across the area in 2001.
