Childersburg has had human settlement history dating from the mid sixteenth century, when it was a Native American village. The Alabama Army Ammunition Plant was located close to the city. The city is self-proclaimedly "The Oldest City in America". Currenty, manufacturing, food and accommodation services, construction and retail trade are the most significant economic activities here.
