Contra Costa County is a county within the state of California in the United States. The county seat is Martinez which holds the northern portion of the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area and is essentially suburban. The county was formerly to be named Mt. Diablo County, but it was replaced prior to incorporation as a county. Contra Costa County was one of the original 27 counties of California which created in 1850.
