Cranston is a city in Providence County, Rhode Island. It is part of the Providence-New Bedford-Fall River Metro Area, and has a total area of 29.9 square miles. 28.6 sqaure miles of the area is land, and the rest is water. The city was originally known as Pawtuxet. The geographical center of the state is located in Cranston.
Narragansett Park, the first race track in the country, was built here in 1886. Sprague Mansion here is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are five public schools here. The cost of living here is 25.50% higher than the country average.
