Emelle is a town in Sumter County, Alabama. Though established during the nineteenth century, it wasn't incorporated till the 1980s. It has a total area of 0.2 miles, all of which is land. The town was known for its bustling cotton trade earlier.

It is now known for the the largest toxic waste landfill in the United States. The site is maintained by Chemical Waste Management, Inc. Though controversial, the company generates maximum employment for the town. The site is known as the “Cadillac of Landfills”. The closest hospital is the Hill Hospital of Sumter County , located 21 miles away, in York. Emelle's cost of living is 19.70% lower than the country average, making living here comparatively cheaper. It has seen a steady decline in population.
