Brief Information About Wedowee

The town of Wedowee is the county seat of Randolph County in the U.S. state of Alabama. Initially incorporated in 1839 and was reincorporated in 1901 because of the charter lapsed by the late 19th century. Wedowee derived its name from "old water"  after a Muscogee Creek Indian chief. In 1835, Wedowee became a county seat of Randolph County. It has a total area of 3.5 square miles at 33°18′31″N 85°29′8″W. It is elevated by 856 feet. As of 2010 census, it had an estimation of 823 total residents living in the town. The population density was about 230.68/sq mi. It is the home of former CEO of Merrill Lynch and currently on the board of Alcoa, Stanley O'Neal. Randolph County High School is within the town of Wedowee. Zip code is 36278.
