Houston has one or more souvenir and novelty shops present. Souvenirs often have no practical value, but they act as keepsakes or memorabilia and are usually associated with famous sights and scenes of a place. They are usually designed with specific motifs or images that are popular in the city. Novelty items are similar, and are often used for decorative or adornment value. Very often, these are bought by tourists from places they visit, both for themselves as well as for gifts. These shops have a wide selection of (usually) locally produced items. Some of these could be even unique to the area, but much of this is kitsch, mass-produced stuff. Some examples include collectables such as postcards, refrigerator magnets, miniature figures; household items: mugs, bowls, plates, ashtrays, egg timers, spoons, clips, vases, snowglobes, etc.
