Junior High and/or middle schools are located in Portal. These are schools that have classes that fall between the elementary and high schools. There is a certain amount of difference in the two terms- junior high schools usually have grades 7 and 8, while middle schools have a higher percentage of younger students, and starts from grade 6. Junior high focuses more on the transition to the next stage i.e. high school. The organization of the teaching staff may also vary, with either independent departments with faculty members, or a group of teachers who work together on the students, with a common approach. Middle schools usually have one or more homerooms, to which the students are assigned. This is the place where the students spend most of the day, with a number of discussions and activities that are carried out. Middle school or junior high students in Portal, as indeed anywhere else, go through an emotionally and physically intense period of adolescence, which can be difficult. The schools, in addition to the curriculum, attempts to help students bridge the journey to adulthood.
