Aberdeen is a city in and the county seat of Brown County, South Dakota. It is the principal city of the Aberdeen Metro Area, and has a total area of 13.0 square miles. 0.1 square mile of the area is water, and the rest is land. Initially, this region was settled by Native Americans, but European settlers arrived in the mid-nineteenth century. The city grew up around the railroad.
