Brief Information About Acton

Acton is a suburban town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It is at a distance of about 21 miles to the west-northwest of Boston. Its population at the 2010 census was 21,924. Acton was named the 16th Best Place To Live among small towns in the country by Money Magazine in 2009 and in 2011. The five village centers comrpsing Acton are Acton Center, West Acton, South Acton, North Acton and East Acton.

The  W. R. Grace and Company established in the mid twentieth century disposed industrial wastes in the lagoons till 1980.  In 1983 the company site was placed on the list of United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund sites as a National Priority for cleanup. Work has since then begun.

The town has a number of parks and open spaces, such as Acton Arboretum, Great Hill, Jenks Land, Wills Hole Conservation Area and Town Forest. It also has two public libraries and a number of museums, including the Discovery Museum. Jones Tavern, the Faulkners House and Mills and the Town Center are the other points of interest in the town.

The town population predominantly comrpises White Americans. A small percentage of the population are people of Asian origin.
