Addison is a city in Dallas County, Texas. While named the Town of Addison, it is officially designated as a city. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metro Area, and functions a suburb of Dallas. It has a total area of 4.4 square miles, all of which is land. The town was settled in 1846, and incorporated in 1953.
Growth has been rapid here. There are a large number of restaurants here. The daytime population is many times the residential population due to the commuting workplace. Major employers include Dresser, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Bank of America, Regus, Jani-King and Palm Harbor Homes. Other companies include Martinaire and Compuware. George H. W. Bush Elementary School is the local public school. There are a number of public parks, and many cultural events in the city. Private schooling is also available. Addison Airport is the local airport. The closest hospital is the Dallas Medical Center, located about 4 miles away, in Dallas. The cost of living here is 17.60% higher than the country average.
