Akron, New York is a village in Erie County, New York. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metro Area. It is located Town of Newstead. The area originally had Native American settlements, from whom the land was purchased in early nineteenth century. It was incorporated as a village in 1849. It has a total area of 2.0 square miles, all of which is land.
Historically, the area was important as a gypsum and cement production center. Local attractions include the Rich-Twinn Octagon House, the Knight-Sutton Museum and Russell Park. Now, retail trade and manufacturing are the most important commercial activities. Akron Central School is the local public school, and Akron Airport is the local airport. The closest hospital is United Memorial Medical Center, located 14 miles away in Batavia. Bank of Akron has a branch here. The cost of living here is 9.40% lower than the country average.
