Alice is a city in and the county seat of Jim Wells County, Texas. It is the principal city of the Alice Metro Area, and has a total area of 12.3 square miles. 11.9 square miles of the area is land, and the rest is water. The city was established in 1888, and named after Alice Gertrudis King Kleberg, the daughter of Richard King. The latter established the King Ranch. Historically, the city has been known for its agricultural products, as well as a small petroleum industry. The city is also recognized as "The Birthplace of Tejano".
