Allen is a city in Collin County, Texas. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metro Area, and functions as a suburb for Dallas. It has a total area of 27.1 square miles, all of which is land. It was initially a Native American settlement, and European settlers came here in 1840s. The city was named in 1872 for Ebenezer Allen, a railroad promoter. It was incorporated in 1953, and has seen a tremendous growth spurt in the last few decades.
