Anderson is a city in and the county seat of Anderson County, South Carolina. It is the principal city of the Anderson Metro Area. It is also part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, South Carolina Combined Statistical Area. Nicknames for the city include "The Electric City" and "The Friendliest City in South Carolina." Named for Revolutionary War hero, Robert Anderson, the city was settled in the late eighteenth century. It was incorporated in 1833. It was the first city in the country to have uninterrupted power supply. Historically, the cotton industry was important here. It has a total area of 13.9 square miles. 13.8 square miles of the area is land, and the rest is water.
Over 230 manufacturers, including 22 international companies are engaged in manufacturing activities here. The main products are automotive products, metal products, industrial machinery, plastics, publishing, and textiles. AnMed health provide healthcare services, as well as employment for the city population. There are a number of public and private schools in the area. Options for higher education include Anderson University, Forrest College and Tri-County Technical College Campus. Anderson Regional Airport is the local airport. Anderson Mall is the major shopping destination here. There are a number of historical structures present in the city as well. The cost of living here is 10.20% lower than the country average.
