Ardmore is a city in and the county seat of Carter County, Oklahoma. The city was established and grew in the early twentieth century, and this was especially prominent after the discovery of the Healdton Oil Field. It has a total area of 50.0 square miles. 0.9 square miles of the area is water, and the rest is land. It is to south of the Arbuckle Mountains, and has variable topography. It is considered as a business, cultural and tourism center. The name in Gaelic language means high grounds or hills.

The major employers here Michelin North America, Mercy Memorial Health Center, Best Buy, Dollar Tree (Marietta) and Dollar General Stores. The city serves as a trading center for south central Oklahoma. Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation focussing on agricultural research is based here. The wealth of the city has been reinvested into cultural centers in the city. This includes Charles B. Goddard Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, Studio 107 Gallery & Art Studios, Greater Southwest Historical Museum, Ardmore Little Theatre, Ardmore Convention Center, Ardmore Civic Auditorium, Hardy Murphy Coliseum.
