Ardmore is a city in and the county seat of Carter County, Oklahoma. The city was established and grew in the early twentieth century, and this was especially prominent after the discovery of the Healdton Oil Field. It has a total area of 50.0 square miles. 0.9 square miles of the area is water, and the rest is land. It is to south of the Arbuckle Mountains, and has variable topography. It is considered as a business, cultural and tourism center. The name in Gaelic language means high grounds or hills.
