Arlington is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It is at a distance of about six miles northwest to Boston. Its population at the 2010 census was 44,824.
The town's original name was Menotomy, an Algonquian word meaning "swift running water". It was changed to Arlington in 1867. Farming was the most significant activity during the early years post-establishment. The town has a number of historic edifices, some of which are in the Arlington Center Historic District, where the Robbins Library and Old Burying Ground are located. The Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places. The population predominantly comrpises White Americans. A small percentage of the population comprises people of Asian origin.
