Bandon is a city in Coos County, Oregon. It is part of the Coos Bay Metro Area, and has a total area of 3.1 square miles. 0.3 square miles of the area is water, and the rest is land. The city is near the mouth of the Coquille River. Before the European settlers arrived, the Coquille Indians had a settlement here. The city was founded by the Irish peer George Bennett in 1873, and named after a town in Ireland. It was incorporated in 1891. The city is susceptible to fire because of the preponderance of oily gorse bushes. Thus, this plant growth is strictly regulated by municipal codes.

Tourism, fishing and timber industries are the major commercial activities here. The city is often referred to as Bandon-by-the-Sea in tourist literature. The largest employers here are Bandon Dunes Golf Course, Southern Coos Health District, School District #54C, Oregon Overseas Timber, and Hardin Optical. Cranberry production is also a significant activity. An Annual Cranberry Festival is also held here. Public schooling comprises one elementary, one middle and one high school. Bandon State Airport is the local airport. Southern Coos Hospital and Health Center on 11th Street is the local hospital. The cost of living here 7.60% higher than the country average.
