Bartlesville is a city spread between the Osage and Washington counties, Oklahoma. It is also the county seat of Washington County. The city is the main center of Bartlesville Micropolitan area, which comprises Washington County. It has a total area of 21.1 square miles. 0.04 square miles of the area is water, and the rest is land. The city is divided into east and west by the Caney River. It also falls within the Tornado Alley. The city was settled in late nineteenth century, and is named after its founder Jacob Bartles. It was platted in 1898.
The major player in the local economy was the erstwhile Phillips Petroleum Company. Now, a global systems and services office is run in the city by ConocoPhillips, which was formed by absorbing Phillips. There is another local office of Chevron Phillips. Public schooling is run by Bartlesville Public Schools, comprising elementary, middle and high schools. There are also a few private schools present. Higher education is provided by Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Tri County Technology Center. Tourism is also a major economic activity. Price Tower in located in downtown city area. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The city hosts an annual "OK MOZART" International Festival in June. Other festivals include Sunfest, a classic air show, Oklahoma Indian Summer Festival and many more. The Oklahoma Historical Society maintains the former home of Frank Phillips. Jane Phillips Medical Center on East Frank Phillips Blvd offers healthcare services locally. Bartlesville Municipal Airport is the local airport. Shopping destinations include Washington Park Mall, Eastland Shopping Center and The Quarters Shopping Center.
