Beatty is a census-designated place (CDP) along the Amargosa River in Nye County in the state of Nevada. It lies between Tonopah and Las Vegas, and is connected to the Death Valley National Park by the State Route 374. Its population at the 2010 census was 1,010. The CDP is named after one of the original settlers, and the area's first postmaster.
The CDP is home to the Beatty Museum and Historical Society, and is also a thriving tourist center. Other nearby attractions include the ghost town of Rhyolite and the Goldwell Open Air Museum, along with Yucca Mountain and the Nevada Test Site, which are about 18 miles to the east. Mining was formerly an important activity here. Now, tourism due to proximity to Las Vegas and the Death Valley National Park contributes significantly due to local economy. Federal defense spending, starting with the Nellis Air Force Range in 1940 and the Nevada Test Site in 1950, also contributed to the local economy.
The population has a majority of White Americans. A significant percentage of the population comprises people of Hispanic origin.
