Beltsville is a census-designated place (CDP) in northern Prince George's County, Maryland. The community of Vansville is included in the CDP. Its total population at the 2000 census was 15,691.
In 18th century, the region was known for iron ore deposits and produced high grade pig iron, which was supplied to the US Army. Due to the railroad construction here, Beltsville also became a flourishing trade center.
Currently, the CDP has a paint factory. A number of historic buildings are located here, some of which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
According to the 2000 census, the CDP was 48.20% White, 31.96% African American, with the remaining being people of other races. 9.84% of the population were people of Hispanic origin.
