Brief Information About Bisbee

Bisbee is a city in Cochise County, Arizona state. It is located 82 miles southeast of Tucson. The population of the city was 6,177 according to 2005 Census Bureau estimates. The city is the county seat of Cochise County.

It was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880, and named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine. After the importance of mining declined, Bisbee became popular among artists during the seventies. Mining has recently seen a resurgence. Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold bought Phelps Dodge Mining in 2007, and has begun some preliminary work in the area.
