Blountsville is a town in Blount County, Alabama. Named for Gov. Willie G. Blount of Tennessee, who provided assistance to settlers in Alabama during the Creek War of 1813-14, the town was created and settled in 1818. It is in the mineral region of the state, and served as the county seat for Blount County, before it was transferred to Oneota in 1889. The town has a total area of 5.5 square miles. 5.4 square miles of the area is land and 0.1 square miles (1.27%) is water.
Blountsville has some significant historic architecture, such as the Copeland-Bussey House, one of the oldest houses in the state that was built in 1835. Other buildings which are in partial ruins include the Freeman House and the Thomas Nation House. The town also has a water park, the Spring Valley Beach Water Park.
The town has one elementary school and one high school. Retail, construction, agriculture and related occupations, manufacturing and public administration are the major players in the local economy. The closest hospital is the St. Vincent's Blount, located about 9 miles away in Oneota. The town also has a local airport, the New Horizon Airport. Blountsville's cost of living is 14.90% lower that the country average, making living here comparatively cheaper.
