Bluffton is a town in Beaufort County, South Carolina. It is part of the Hilton Head Island-Beaufort Metro Area, and is a lowcountry town. It has a total area of 53.5 square miles. 51.3 square miles of the area is land, and the rest is water. The town is developing rapidly, becoming steadily contiguous with the nearby Hilton Head Island. Bluffton, formerly a Native American settlement, was established properly in the nineteenth century.

Construction, tourism, entertainment options and retail trade are the major contributors to the local economy. There are a number of public and private schools, with the former coming under the Beaufort County School District. Higher education can be obtained from the nearby University of South Carolina-Beaufort. The closest hospital is the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center, located about 6 miles away in Hilton Head Island. The cost of living here is 4.60% higher than the country average.
