Brewton is a city in and the county seat of Escambia County, Alabama. The city has a total area of 11.5 square miles. 11.3 square miles of it is land and 0.1 square miles of it (1.22%) is water. The railway station (around which the city subsequently grew) of Brewton was established in 1861. The city is named after Edmund Troupe Brewton, its first station master.
Historically, the city was an agriculture and railroad hub. Manufaturing of silk goods, shirt-type garments, iron products and commercial paper making was also taking place.
The city has three schools, one elementary, one middle, and one high school, all located on Douglas Ave. The city is also home to the Jefferson Davis Community College, a small postsecondary school that mainly gives out associate's degrees. The city has one museum, the Thomas E. McMillan Museum that is maintained by a private grant. Brewton also hosts an annual Alabama Blueberry Festival. DW McMillan Memorial Hospital, located within the city on Belleville Ave. Brewton's cost of living is 12.90% lower that the country average, making living here cheaper.
