Brighton is a city in Jefferson County, Alabama. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover Metro Area. The city is near Birmingham, and just east of Hueytown. It was originally settled by English people, and is named after the English tourist and resort city of Brighton. The city has a total area of 1.4 square miles, all of it land. The city was incorporated in 1901. Historically, the most important industry had been the Woodward Iron Company, which has since moved out of the town, leading to its relative decline.

Now, the most important industries for the local economy are administrative and support and waste management services, retail trade, manufacturing, public utilities, and accommodation and food services. Brighton's cost of living is 22.80% lower that the country average, making living here significantly cheaper. The closest hospital is the Princeton Baptist Medical Center, located about 5 miles away in Birmingham.
