With a total area of about 34 sq. kms., the city of Brookings is situated at a height of about 1620 ft. above the ground level. It is the 4th largest city of South Dakota state located in the county of Brookings. It also serves as the county seat.
The South Dakota University is located in the city. Some of the principal employers of the area are Daktronics Inc., Larson Manufacturing, Brookings Hospital and many others. The local media industry consists of a few well known radio stations. The transportation sector employs a good number of people from the area. Some interesting tourists spots are the Coughlin Campanile, Art Museum of South Dakota, Frost Arena among others. These attract a fairly large number of visitors from around the town.
