Located in the Ventura County of California in the US, Camarillo is named after a couple of California natives of Hispanic ancestry to preserve the city's heritage after the arrival of Anglo settlers. Like most other cities of Ventura County, Camarillo is resistant to development. Camarillo covers an average area of 51 km2. It rests in the Pleasant Valley at the eastern end of the Oxnard Plain with mountains in the north and south, hills in the northwest, and a valley to the east. It experiences warm and dry summers, and has a temperate climate overall. Being a coastal city it experiences mild ocean breeze with an annual rainfall of 13 inches; it sees 300 days of sunshine with an average humidity of 62%. The 2010 US Census reported Camarillo's population at 65,201 with a density of 3336 people per square mile; the racial makeup was reported to be comprising of 75% White, 1.9% Afro-Americans, 0.6% Native Americans, 10.2% Asians, 0.2% Pacific Islanders and 7.3% of other races. Transport and tourism, information technology, health services, textiles, insurance, aviation and pharmaceuticals enhance the financial viability of the city.
