Citronelle is a city in Mobile County, Alabama. It is part of the Mobile metropolitan statistical area. It has a total area of 24.7 square miles. 24.4 square miles of it is land and 0.2 square miles (1.01%) is water. Citronelle Dome is a giant anticline with a salt core in the eastern Mississippi Interior Salt Basin, in the southwestern part of the state. The shape and structure of the dome facilitates oil extraction and saline reservoir CO2 sequestration. The city is known as the oil capital of the state, after oil was discovered here in 1955.

Other industries include oil extraction, manufacturing, construction, healthcare and social assistance. The closest hospital is Washington County Hospital, located in Chatom.
