Elko is a city in and the county seat of Elko County, Nevada. The city sits on the Humboldt River, and its population at the 2010 census was 18,297. Elko is the main city of the Elko Micropolitan Statistical Area, a micropolitan area that covers Elko and Eureka counties. The Great Basin College and the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office that serves most of northern and central Nevada are both located here.

The city is considered the capital of Nevada's goldbelt, and the local economy thrives and slumps as per the rise and fall in prices of gold.
